A very short story about my inspirations, my life and my goal..
INDEX
INSPIRATION & ME
Music & Arts have always been a very important part of my life. I love imagination. When I was little I used to draw like crazy, every single day. The the first instrument that I played were the drums. I started playing on a homemade drumset, with pots & pans and old boxes. I remember playing
along to Mark Knopfler songs.
Later on, I took some drum lessons too. And until now I still love playing drums so much.
When I was a little boy my parents played a lot from Sting, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton & Eva Cassidy. I remember, one time we were spending a holiday in Great Britain, and we stayed in a bed & breakfast called The Granary. It was in Faversham. In a big, old renovated shed/house. Inside there was a lot of wood. One morning the hosts played the Songbird album by Eva Cassidy.
It was truly beautiful to hear the guitars and her voice wonder through this big warm house. Since that day I was stuck on her music too.
A few years earlier than that holiday, my mother got the HIStory album from Michael Jackson. And when she put in on I was stunned. I couldn't believe what I heard: the sounds, the beats, the voice! I was blown away right off my white socks.
We went to a HIStory Tour concert in Amsterdam, and right then & there I knew that I wanted to be an artist like him too.
PARADE
Parade was the very first album I heard from Prince and I didn't really know what to do with it at first. But Prince kept drawing my attention.. So I started listening to him more and more and more.. I just love his music & style.
He opened my mind for many other artists like Candy Dulfer, Maceo Parker, Sheila E, Wendy & Lisa, Rhonda Smith (she rocks tha bass!) and many others.
Joni Mitchell is also a huge part of my inspiration. Her music tells her truth, and so much more. Her views and her poetry and harmonies are amazing. Truly beautiful
After I took drum lessons, my father bought a little keyboard. And I started playing some chords, to accompany myself with the singing.
Soon I really started diggin' the keys, and I tought myself more & more. I love playing the keys & piano.
I started teaching myself to play the guitar in Joni Mitchell's way. It's so pretty and heavenly playing with a guitar tuned in all those different tunings.
I also play some bass & percussion.
When I was learning to play the keys, I also started with songwriting.
And when my cousin in Germany showed me Cubase, I started to record my own stuff too.
I love working with sounds!
I must not forget to mention the amazing Kate Bush. She is magical.
And there're so many more I should mention, but I won't.. let's keept it short!
THE BEGINNING & THE FUTURE
Back to the very beginning: I was born in a town in the Netherlands, on February the 3rd, 1990.
I have been performing ever since I was a little boy. I love being on stage so much. It gives my energy, and it's a very special feeling, magical.
Inspired by the universe & other artists I will pursue my dream of becoming a great artist. I will move to Los Angeles in 2010 to make music there, meet other artists, write and especially learn.
THE MESSAG3
In this troubled world full of wars, deconstruction, anger, poverty and so much more, we should really start respecting and loving each other more and help wherever you can.
I believe that we shouldn't add to the mean world, but create love.
And I want to help with making my music: giving people an interesting and loving escape from the hate.
So let's enjoy the time we have on this earth, make music and love..
